Words that Define us and Challenge us

"Follow me."

John 1:43

"Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be."

John 12:36

Self-awareness: (In Jesus Christ we discover who we are)

Mark 6:31, "He said to them, "Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while."

Matthew 11:28-30, 'Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your selves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."

John 4:34, "Jesus said to them, 'My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to finish his work.'"

Luke 6:12,  In those days he departed to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer  to God.

Ingenuity:

Luke 16:8, “…the worldly take more initiative than the other-worldly when it comes to dealing with their own kind.”

1 Corinthians 9:22, “I have become all things to all, to save at least some.”

Love:

Colossians 3:14, “…over all these put on love, that is, the bond of perfection.”

Mark 12:29-31, "Which is the first of all the commandments?" Jesus replied, "The first is this: 'Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

1 John 4:7-21, Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love. In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him. In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love one another. No one has ever seen God. Yet, if we love one another, God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us. This is how we know that we remain in him and he in us, that he has given us of his Spirit. Moreover, we have seen and testify that the Father sent his Son as savior of the world. Whoever acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him and he in God. We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us. God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him. In this is love brought to perfection among us, that we have confidence on the day of judgment because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment, and so one who fears is not yet perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, "I love God," but hates his brother, he is a liar; for whoever does not love a brother whom he has seen cannot love God 5 whom he has not seen. This is the commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.

Heroism:

John 15:13, “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends.”

1 Corinthians 11:1, “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.”

Matthew 16:24, & 25, "Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
