Guild of Cantors
Amanda began her performance singing career at the early age of four, when she sang a solo of the “National Anthem” at her pre-school graduation ceremony. From then on, her love of singing has always been with her.
During grade school, she always performed in her school choirs and began her music education. In 2008, she joined Young Singers of the Palm Beaches singing in different venues, and travelled to Eugene, Oregon to learn and perform at the Pacific International Youth Choir Festival.
Always continuing her music education, she performed as a cantor at Masses for Cardinal Newman High School in Palm Beach, Florida, as well as performing in numerous musical and drama concerts during her high school years. She once again performed a solo of the “National Anthem” at her high school matriculation at the Kravis Center. She was awarded the highest Pathfinder award for vocals.
During the summers of 2011 and 2012 Amanda studied voice and dance at the Alvin Aley American Dance Theater in New York City. During one of her New York City excursions she entered a solo contest and was awarded first place for her performance of the “Ave Maria”.
Amanda was accepted into the New World School of the Arts College in Miami, Florida where she studied and was cantor at the nearby Gesu Catholic Church. Moving to Tampa, Amanda continues to sing and cantor in the St. Lawrence Catholic Church choir. Now, 23 years old Amanda’s love of music and God is evident as she continues her music ministry. Amanda sings in English and Spanish and is available for weddings and funerals.
Florence has been a cantor and soloist for most of her adult life. After receiving many years of formal vocal training as a lyric soprano in the greater New York area, she began singing as a cantor and soloist for various public and church events both in the New York area and in Florida. Currently at St Lawrence Church she enjoys the privilege of serving as cantor at the Saturday 4pm Vigil Mass as well as being a member of the choir at the 11am Sunday Mass.
Florence is available for weddings and funerals.
Vivian has been a member of the St Lawrence Parish and Choir where she has been a Cantor since 1998. Vivian was born in Puerto Rico where she had been singing in her church since she was 12 years old. She moved to Brandon, Florida in 1979 and became a member of the O.L.P.H. parish in Ybor City where she directed the Spanish Choir for one year. During her High School years she joined the Spanish Lyric Theater Company where she gained some experience with singing and dancing in Zarzuelas and Spanish Variety Shows. She received her Bachelor degree in Music with a minor in language from the University of South Florida. She had the amazing opportunity to study music in Perugia, Italy and performed at the 1985 Umbria Jazz Festival –Amateur Concerto. She was a finalist at the 1987 Metropolitan Opera Competition and had the privilege to represent Tampa at the 1987 OTI Festival de la Cancion in Miami. Vivian has also performed various roles in the musical theater arena. Some of her roles include: Tzeitel in Fiddler on the Roof, Anita in West Side Story, Carmen in the Opera Carmen, the Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd, and Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar. She had the opportunity to be the opening act for KD Lang and Richard Marx at the 2001 Gasparilla Pirate Fest in Tampa. She continues to perform with local community groups such as singing for the Plant City Art Council. In her everyday life, she is a Manager with the Pinellas County Human Services Administration. Vivian is very proud and blessed to have her husband Armando and their two remarkable young sons, Armando Jr and Alejandro. “Music is the voice of the heart in search of God”
At St Lawrence Church Vivian serves as cantor at the 11am Mass and is available to sing for funerals and weddings.
