Men's Prayer Group
Description: The Purpose of the Ministry is for men of St. Lawrence Parish to review together the READINGS of the coming Sunday and/or Feast-day Mass and share their insights of them in a Comfortable, Fraternal atmosphere. We use the Missalettes, which our Parish provides, and our Bibles. Usually have some coffee & snacks. Everyone contributes based on their backgrounds: J. Joyce was active at St. Mary's before moving to St. Lawrence; E. Maurer works in Information Technology; B. Morgan was a Banker and a 3rd Order Franciscan; R. Ellis was a HS Teacher and Convert to Catholicism, who likes to meditate and understand the Scriptures; J. Alexander shows his significant insights from being with the Navy and then as a Parole Officer to his retirement; JK Tan was tutored in the Scriptures using the Jerusalem Bible, Study Edition, by the late Fr. Elmer R. Moore. Fr. Moore was taught by Dominican Friars who worked at the Jerusalem Biblical Institute. The late Fr. Rodney Kissinger, SJ, guided JK Tan through the 30-Day Ignatian Exercises.
Membership: Any adult Male member of the Parish is welcome. Just bring your Bible.
Time Commitment: 2 to 3 hours per week, reading and meditating on the coming Sunday / Feast- day Mass Readings.
Ministry Activities: We open each meeting with a Prayer to the Holy Spirit, and close it with a Dedication to Jesus, followed by petitions, which we wish to bring to Our Father's attention. As his Children we then pray the Our Father, followed by the Memorare, and the prayer to St. Michael. If we agree, we also watch some DVD's. For example: "The Kingdom of David" -to give us some insight into the Jewish ways of looking at the Old Testament accounts. "The Song of Bernadette" is being considered to inform us on how Mother Church investigates claims of Visitations from Our Lady, etc. We may agree to attend a special meeting (e.g. we attended the opening of the "40 Days Prayer to End Abortion" in front of the Fletcher Ave Abortion Center, and plan to attend Scott Hahn's presentation at the Men's Conference at. Lawrence on February 18, 2012).
Meeting Frequency & Location: Meets Tuesday Evenings at 7:00 PM in the Glendalough Room (Room behind the Higgins Hall Library) and usually finishes by 8:30 PM.
